Camilla Sæberg

Camilla Sæberg (b. 1991, Finland) is a painter based in Reykjavík, Iceland, where she has lived since 2013. She holds an MA in Fine Arts and an MA in Art Theory from the Iceland University of the Arts (2024), where she also completed her BA in Fine Arts in 2017. During the summer months, she returns to her home city of Tampere, working in residencies between two landscapes that have long shaped her practice.

Her paintings are made with oil on canvas, a medium she uses to navigate the threshold between figuration and dissolution. Form emerges and retreats, carried by the rhythm of gestural brushstrokes that feel less like decisions than like responses. The canvas becomes a space where colour, movement, and the memory of bodies are woven together into something felt before it is seen.

Sæberg is drawn to what resists language — the unspoken, the half-remembered, the tension held in a gesture. Her subjects don't so much appear as they surface, rising through layers of paint with a dreamlike softness, shaped by the visceral, physical act of making.
